Befriend a child is the oldest befriending scheme for children in Scotland and the only organisation providing one-to-one, long-term child-centred support in Aberdeen.
We aim to relieve the suffering and distress, advance the education and promote the welfare of children in Aberdeen by providing a one-to-one befriending service. Children referred to us are paired with volunteers (19+), who engage the children on a fortnightly basis. The children are taken out by their befrienders, introducing them to new activities, for instance going to a park, restaurant, and cinema whereby they are given the opportunity to learn essential life skills. Through consistency and reliability, befrienders ultimately prove to the children that not all adults will let them down.
Befriend A Child brings a little ray of sunshine into the lives of the children we help by giving them the opportunity to do things we all take for granted, such as visiting the supermarket, walking along the beach or even just having someone to talk to, while ensuring they are taught essential life skills for instance eating with a knife and fork.
Jumping from a perfectly serviceable aeroplane takes a good deal of courage. Just ask your friends, family and work colleagues how much they are prepared to pay not to jump out of an aircraft, and put that money to the cause.
